9 Days till Departure

When I think of Guatemala that is the picture I think of. Lush greenery, mountains, small homes, and rain. As I can now count the number of days left on two hands (9 days!) that I have in the United States I am getting more and more excited to return to a country I am so fond of. This past week I have spent many hours making last minute doctors visits, shopping for gear, and meeting with friends and family I probably won't be seeing until Christmas. It is all flying by and you really can't slow time. I will be working for a non-profit called Highland Partners (HiP) that focuses on breaking cycles of dependency in marginalized communities throughout Guatemala, on the White Mountain Apache Reservation in Arizona, and in Peru. I am thrilled to have been called to be involved with an organization so amazing, one that has such a passion for providing people with a new way to view life and themselves. HiP offers certification classes, entrepreneurial opportunities, health programs, stove building programs, arts programs for children and so much more. I personally will be working as the outreach coordinator, group liaison for mission and service teams, and intern coordinator. As a long term intern I am having to personally fund raise for my monthly stipend. I want to thank Aldersgate United Methodist church in Alexandria, VA and Aldersgate's United Methodist Men's group for supporting me financially. I can't wait to show you how your money will transform lives. I still have more to fund raise so I will posting my fundraising website soon. I am excited for what this next year has to bring and I am absolutely thrilled that I will be able to update you along the way.
